The total cost of a Massachusetts medical marijuana card has two parts: the physician evaluation and the state registration itself. Here’s how that breaks down, with sources, so you can see exactly where the $50 fee fits.
| Cost component | MedicalCardsMA | Typical range reported elsewhere |
|---|---|---|
| Physician/NP evaluation (new or renewal) | $50 flat | $100–$300, per published pricing at other Massachusetts telemedicine certification providers |
| State registration card (Mass. Cannabis Control Commission) | $0 – the Commission no longer charges a registration fee | $0 (a $10 fee applies only if you need a replacement card) |
| Financial-hardship option | One for all | The state’s own fee waiver covers the $10 replacement-card fee for verified financial hardship; it does not cover a private clinician’s evaluation fee |
Sources: state registration fee and hardship-waiver scope confirmed via the Cannabis Control Commission’s new-patient registration page; comparison evaluation pricing per published cost information from another Massachusetts provider. Other clinics may price differently or change their fees at any time — this is meant as a general point of reference, not a guarantee about any other provider’s current price.
Who provides the evaluation
Our certification team includes both physicians and nurse practitioners. Appointment length depends on your needs — a straightforward certification visit is typically brief. Appointments are conducted by phone, available Monday through Sunday, 12 PM to 5 PM. Patients must be 18 or older.
What isn’t included
The $50 evaluation is scoped to certification only. It does not include individualized product selection, personalized dosing plans, titration strategy, comprehensive medication-interaction consultation, or ongoing treatment management. Patients who want that level of care are better served by a dedicated, comprehensive cannabis medicine practice. See our scope of care page to understand which model fits you best.
